Round 12 – Season 2023
Challenging matches this week as the cold weather and rain joined in… ’tis a winter sport.
Under 9
Dartmoor and Redlegs had a challenging match this week as cold weather and rain joined in for some time.
Redlegs scored early with some great passes and coordination, which challenged Mackenzie and Isaac in the midfield.
Later Dartmoor scored two goals thanks to Hugo and Monique with amazing tackles and calling.
The rain continued on in the second half, as well as the scoring, with Redlegs getting two more goals and having some fantastic runs into the forward line. Fortunately Dartmoor stopped most with Philippa and Bri making good tackles and defending well.
Dartmoor vs Redlegs- Under 13
While the score reflected a very one sided match, it was anything but. The match was very exciting to watch, Redlegs backline should be commended on their great defence skills, especially Hadleigh Haynes in goals, who blocked more than they let through.
Dartmoor’s strong attack and experience shone through, with Mason and Jacob using their skills to get through Redlegs’ midline and making good use of Ashton Gale’s and Nate Harris’ placement in Redlegs circle.
Redlegs’ Seth Gale made some great passes to Grace Law and Hannah Schultz which had Dartmoor on the back foot a few times. The crowd held their breath hoping for a Reds goal, but Ben Durik and Bree Ellis were just too good in defence.
In the end Dartmoor’s experience outshone Redlegs but their determination, and never say die attitude never faltered.

Dartmoor vs Greenbottles- Under 16
This would be the last game before finals that Dartmoor and Greenbottles would play.
Greenbottles came out strong and put the pressure on Dartmoor, resulting in a short corner. It was a great shot but a smidgen too wide, Dartmoor’s Maggie McLean watching it over the backline.
Jesse Lewis then placed an amazing overhead ball into the Greens circle which bounced off the goal post to where Kailey Sneath was waiting in position, but Greenbottles defence held Dartmoor out.
Dartmoor’s first goal came from a short corner with a beautiful low drag flick from Jessie Lewis.
The second quarter saw some great attack from Greenbottles Henry Fry and Phoebe Yates. Sophie Waters lined up the ball for a great shot at goals but it was just a fraction too wide.
Jesse Lewis again got a goal with a great shot from a short corner. Jesse and Mason then worked the ball into Greens’ circle where Mason sent a cracker of a hit at goals only to have Harrison clear the ball almost to Mr Gambier!
There was a lot of mid field play, no one getting any advantage, until Dartmoor made made use of Nate Harris’ position in the circle, and he was able to sneak one past the goalie.
The third quarter saw rain and play slowed just a tad. Mason snuck a quick goal in and then Greenbottles defence got in a groove and really slowed down Dartmoor’s attack for the rest of the game.
Archie and Toby both played a strong game in defending Dartmoor’s short corner attempts.
An excellent game to watch. Well done to both teams.

Dartmoor vs Greenbottles- Women
With the weather being very temperamental all day, both teams (including the umpires) had their fingers crossed the rain would hold off.
Greenbottles took control of the game from the first whistle. They made good use of their accurate short passes and team play. Dartmoor’s defence was under pressure, and Tash Moore was kept very busy in the backline.
Dartmoor settled and then made use of some wide passes that were then fed nicely into Greenbottles’ circle. Dartmoor was able to get two goals before quarter time.
The second quarter saw Dartmoor again put pressure on Greens’ backline. With lots of attacking play and shots at goal, the Greenbottles goalie and fullbacks were very busy. Dartmoor was able to convert another 2 goals before half time.
The second half of the match was very evenly matched. Greens’ defence really stepped up, and didn’t let Dartmoor score for the rest of the game.
Greenbottles’ forward line had some amazing attempts at goals, but Brittany Chaston had them covered.
The rain held off, thankfully, and the final score was 4-0.

Dartmoor vs Greenbottles- Men
In a game that threatened to be played in blizzard like conditions the Greenbottles vs Dartmoor men’s game ended up quite clean and very competitive.
To start the game Greenbottles came out firing and with some great space and passing were able to find 2 goals in the first quarter. Matt was able to convert with a good shot and Mick was able to convert a penalty flick!
Following the first quarter onslaught Dartmoor then switched on and in the following 2nd and 3rd quarters the game was dead even. The score remained 2 nil throughout and both teams had some good opportunities to score, even though the rain came down around half time.
In the 4th quarter Dartmoor started pressing more to attack to get those goals back but were thwarted by a final goal, scored by Mick again who found himself with too much space in the forward line when he struck truly past the Darts goalie on the fore-stick.
A game well played by both sides
