With matches scheduled for the afternoon and evening, the NDHA Grand Finals were a greatly anticipated affair.
Presentation Night Awards
A huge thank you to Lis Champion and Kelli Harris for supplying the photos from Grand Final day and Presentation night respectively.
Lis took many more action shots than what is shown here, so if you would like to see more please contact your club as they have the link to the files.
After having a well deserved break during the first 2 rounds of finals, the Under 9’s were welcomed back to play in a late afternoon spectacle. The improvements shown by the children have been amazing. It was fantastic seeing them out every week enjoying the game of hockey!
Thanks to the coaches, parents, grandparents and carers who also were out there every weekend. You never know, there could be a future star among them!
Dartmoor v Greenbottles – Under 13 Grand Final
Dartmoor and Greenbottles took the field, both teams full of excitement.
Dartmoor came out strong, getting a short corner within minutes of starting the game, however they were unable to score.
Greenbottles pushed back with Alice Fry, Harriet Waters, Henry Fry, and Chloe Mahoney getting the ball into attack leading to multiple short corners.
Dartmoor’s goalie, Bree Ellis, made some incredible saves but Toby Boord and Jada Copping where both able to get one past her making the score for Greenbottles 2-0 at half time.
In the second half, Dartmoor fought back strong, determined to even the score.
An early goal from Mason White made the score 2-1.
Greenbottles Zara James and Phoebe Yates held the backline strong and despite Dartmoor’s best efforts they were unable to convert a second goal.
Greenbottles secured the victory 2-1.

Greenbottles v Dartmoor – Under 16 Grand Final
The Under 16’s game was an amazing display of hockey from our talented juniors.
Greenbottles captain Henry Boord lead his team under guidance from super coach Gavin Boord, encouraging his team mates who all played a cracking team game.
Goalie Jack Hutchesson, still on a high from winning the U13’s, did his best and kept the ball out of the goals.
Despite Dartmoor’s persistence and determination, Greenbottles defenders Archie Carruthers-Murray & Lucy Yates defended the circle with courage, running onto any loose ball and hitting it wide, where young guns Tillie Derrington & Sophie Waters were positioned eager to move it forward.
Callum Carruthers-Murray ran the ball forward with his gazelle like speed. Will Ellis moved the ball well into attack, passing to team mate Harriet Waters who had an opportunity to score the first goal for Greenbottles but was stopped right on the line by Dartmoor’s Tash Moore.
A very exciting first half which saw the score at nil all, still anyone’s game and a brilliant way for a Grand Final to be played.
Dartmoor and Greenbottles both came out hungry for the win, after encouraging pep talks from coaches Jack Thomson and Gavin Boord. The crowd got behind both teams, cheering as the players headed back on the field for the second half.
Zoe James came out strong, running the ball into the circle, with shots on goal saved by Dartmoor’s goalie Maggie McLean. Jada Copping stole the ball from Dartmoor with her strong defence, stopping the ball in its tracks with her flat stick.
Eliza Withers and Phoebe Yates held their positions wide and helping the ball down the pitch. The majestic Lochie Dolphin worked hard all game, running the ball into attack but unable to convert into goals.
Henry Boord stole the ball, and with a magnificent shot from the top of the circle, scored the first goal of the game putting Greenbottles in the lead.
The atmosphere was electric, time was running out. Determined not to be out of the game, Dartmoor came back fighting, running the ball into their attack only to be stopped by Toby Boord.
A quick pass to his brother Henry, who ran the ball forward where Callum Carruthers-Murray was ready to take a shot and scored the second goal of the game. The crowd erupted in cheers.
A fantastic game from Greenbottles to see them win the U16s Grand Final of 2022.

Tatiara v Dartmoor – Women’s Grand Final
Tatiara formed an early stranglehold of the game forcing Dartmoor’s players into a strong defensive mode.
Tatiara had numerous penalty corners that didn’t convert, which pretty much set the scene of the whole match. The first quarter rounded off as nil all.
Dartmoor’s Gayle Ellis was determined to not let Tatiara’s strikers through. Sending out countless hard long hits down the pitch in hope of connecting with her high centre forward (Sarah Hamilton) who was always up for a great tussle with Tatiara’s back player Pinky.
A bouncy hit snuck past forcing Tatiara’s defence to bolt back. Sarah Hamilton made the most of this bounce and pounced on the opportunity slotting the first goal of the game.
Dartmoor’s goalie (Brittany Chaston) was in full form, stopping Tatiara’s numerous strikes at goal, like an attacking ninja.
After many more of Tatiara’s penalty corner plays, finally Querida Pearse slots a give left shot on goal , putting the score board level.
The final quarter ran with great intensity, entertaining the now vocal spectators into an exciting game. Tatiara had numerous penalty corners which finally converted to the game winning goal via Olivia Williams.
Dartmoor never gave up with a few penalty corners near the end in hope of equalling the score.
The final whistle blew making Tatiara back to back premiers with a 2-1 win.
