Round 13 – Season 2024
Dartmoor vs Kingston/Lucindale – Under 13
The first quarter started off quickly with a goal from Eddie Dolphin. A bit of back and forth but nobody else scored.
Second quarter saw Nate Harris score a nice goal from open play. Heavy rain late in the quarter didn’t seem to dampen the kid’s attitude and certainly didn’t slow the game down. Half time score 2-0.
Third quarter was fairly evenly matched with Dartmoor having most of the attacking play. Rebecca Clothier managed to convert a nice run into a one-on-one making the score 2-1 at the end of the third quarter.
Fourth quarter started well and after a few tries Dartmoor got their third through Kendra Lewis. Monique Lewis also slotted in a goal less than a minute before full-time bring the full-time score to 4-1 Darts way. Well played by both teams.

Dartmoor vs Kingston/Lucindale- Under 16
Dartmoor took on Kingston/Lucindale on this very cold and rainy Saturday . It was a fast paced match with nice wide passes and lots of running for everyone. It took Dartmoor a few tries to score past the KL goalie with the first quarter score coming to 3-0.
This score just meant that Kingston/Lucindale were going to fight harder in the next quarter, coming down into the attacking circle more creating Dartmoor to have to run back to the circle and clear it quickly. Dartmoor then proceeded to score more impressive goals with great passing around the circle in the second quarter and throughout the game.
Quarter three brought more competition between the 2 teams with Dartmoor scoring a couple of goals and putting a lot of pressure on KL amazing defence.
Quarter four brought a few more goals for Dartmoor and some more attack in the circle for Kingston/Lucindale which put Dartmoor defence under some pressure. Although the score was 8-0 at the end of the game, Dartmoor’s way, both teams put up an amazing fight through the incredibly cold game.
Great play by everyone with strong defence and great attack from both sides.

Dartmoor vs Kingston/Lucindale- Women
On a blustery day at the end of July, Dartmoor met Kingston/Lucindale for a mighty battle. K/L arrived with a fast and strengthened line-up, thanks to some recent recruiting. The Dartmoor bench was concerned; Coach Jack hovered over the whiteboard, scratching names into positions while nervously observing the opposition’s warm-up. Missing a few seasoned and capable players, Dartmoor had filled their roster with eager juniors.
From the first whistle, the game was intense. K/L burst out of the gate, immediately launching into attack with swift running plays. Their use of the long ball, feeding skilled forwards, had Dartmoor on the back foot. K/L was extremely unlucky not to score in the first 10 minutes after dominating play inside their forward 50, with forwards Sarah and Jemima showcasing excellent positioning and attacking flair. Dartmoor managed to reclaim possession through a series of free hits, providing a brief respite from K/L’s relentless pressure and advancing the ball forward. However, this was short-lived as K/L’s defensive stalwart, Nicola, quickly regained control, sending the ball back to her forwards with precise long balls. Nicola’s solid presence in defence was a key factor in keeping Dartmoor at bay during the initial stages of the game. As the quarter neared its end, Dartmoor executed a rapid counterattack from their defence, sending a long ball through K/L’s defence. Kailey “Pouncer” Sneath, expertly positioned at the post, seized the opportunity to score, giving Dartmoor a 1-0 lead against the flow of play.
Coach Jack’s inspiring words at the break revitalised the team, who entered the second quarter with a clear mission: to be first to the ball. Our young talents—Kailey, Grace “Ghost” Gale, and Kendra—who had already shown promise, stepped up their game, displaying an inspired and confident style of hockey. They executed several brilliant passages of short, sharp passing, along with individual skills that created scoring opportunities. Midway through the quarter, future leader Alvina delivered a precise pass to Cath “Radar” Sellers, who, with lightning reflexes, deflected a high shot towards the keeper’s head. Legendary goalkeeper Shazza made an initial save, but Cath, ever alert, quickly dispatched the rebound into the net, making it 2-0. K/L responded with a strong push, breaking through our midfield multiple times, with Sarah, Jemima, and Sile posing significant threats. Sile, in particular, displayed great pace and dribbling skills, often breaking through Dartmoor’s defensive lines. However, K/L’s forwards were consistently thwarted by the play-reading wizardry of Kelly. Jane, having rotated from fullback, made an immediate impact, leading hard and capitalising on a loose ball to extend the lead to 3-0 by halftime.
In the third quarter, Dartmoor’s momentum grew, powered by the relentless energy of Grace and Kendra. Their tenacious chasing and tackling led to critical free hits, which were quickly converted into short corners or shots on goal. Skylea and Tash “Silent Assassin” Moore each scored, pushing the lead to 5-0. K/L, determined to make a mark, continued to create dangerous chances. They connected well through their midfield, with Jemima leading by example, distributing the ball effectively and orchestrating attacks. K/L’s forwards delivered a stunning cross, which was expertly finished by their talented striker, Sile, closing the gap to 5-1. Grace “Ghost” Gale created space on the wing and executed a skillful entry into the circle, creating a scoring chance that she converted, ending the third quarter at 6-1 for Dartmoor.
The fourth quarter saw both teams slowing down, except for Jane, who, freed from her fullback duties, tirelessly ran both ends of the pitch, seizing loose balls to maintain Dartmoor’s momentum. Dartmoor capitalised on a series of short corners, employing improvised set plays that Tash “Silent Assassin” Moore expertly converted into goals, securing a hat-trick. Despite the scoreline, K/L’s goalkeeper Shazza made several impressive saves, demonstrating her experience and skill. The final score was Dartmoor 8, K/L 1, reflecting a hard-fought contest with standout performances from both sides.

Dartmoor vs Kingston/Lucindale – Men
The men’s game on Saturday followed a brutal shower of hail which thankfully happened before the warmup even began! Dispelling some of the worry of the players of freezing in their positions.
The game then began with great control from both teams. This saw a few strong runs and opportunities on both sides. Dartmoor squandered a couple good shots but were to convert twice in the first half!
Then the second half started in a similar vein however Kingston/Lucindale began to run over the top of Darts and got through the Darts defence with some great long passes and fast play this saw them threaten to score multiple goals and take the game away in the final quarter.
Darts however stood their ground and were able to wrestle the momentum back, converting another before finally, not long before full time, Kingston/Lucindale converted a short corner and got some reward for effort. All in all a well played, close game, indicative of the close form of the teams in the men’s comp.
