A nice calm evening for the first Friday night game of the season for Tatiara Hockey Club.
Under 9
With a sunny start our U9’s Greenbottles took on Redlegs and Dartmoor.
Our Greenbottles team took on Redlegs in a very even skilled side with lots of great passing, calling for the ball and an excellent outcome of both sides scoring goals.
Our Greenbottles team who took on an experienced Dartmoor had 3 new players and all enthusiastically took up the challenge.
Thank to you to all the volunteers and umpires.

Tatiara vs Greenbottles – Under 16
A nice calm evening for the first Friday night game of the season. Tatiara started with the ball and after some strong passes got it down near the circle, but by some strong defence, the Greenbottles were able to take the ball down the side line into their attacking half.
The play went back and forth until Greenbottles brought the ball into their circle with Toby executing a high shot at goal only to be blocked by Tatiara’s GK Piper. The play stayed in Greenbottle’s circle and they were awarded 2 short corners but were unable to convert a goal due to Tatiara’s strong defence lead by Michael.
A lot more back and forth with both teams defending well. Some quick turnovers and great running by players to get back to defend. Just before half time a short corner was awarded to Greenbottles, with a pass from the top of the circle to Henry at 45, who took a great shot at goal only to be blocked on the last line of defence by Tatiara’s Matt.
The second half was still quite even with both teams pushing forward but the defenders sending it back again. A quick turnover for Greenbottles gave them another shot at goal for Jim, but was blocked again by GK Piper.
Tatiara made use of the ball and had a great run forward with Michael taking a shot at goal only to be blocked by Greenbottle’s GK Jack, but Finn was there for the rebound off the pads and scored the first goal of the game for Tatiara.
The game continued to be even with the ball going back and forth until Greenbottles were awarded a short. After a solid pass in, the ball was passed around in the circle with some ping pong action until Henry sneaked in a goal for Greenbottles. The game ended a few minutes later at a draw.
A great, fun and even game played by all.

Tatiara vs Greenbottles – Women
Greenbottles attacked well through Tillie Derrington, earning multiple short corners. These were defended well by Laura Nash for Tatiara. Greenbottles looked to utilise their bench to keep fresh legs going forward compared to Tatiara that only had 10 players. Greenbottles continued to bring the pressure to earn another short which was converted into a goal with a strong hit by Madi Derrington. There was an arm wrestle for possession in the midfield with Holly Pietsch and Imogen Williams playing well for Tatiara.
Tatiara came out hard in the second quarter, with Nikki Taylor scoring from a nice hit from the top of the circle to even the scores. Greenbottles responded with attacking play, with Madi Derrington making a nice run through the Tatiara defence to score. Tatiara wingers Belinda Taylor and Georgia Gherardan, playing her first game of hockey, were both making good runs to get into position but couldn’t get on the end of any chances.
In the third, Belinda Taylor snuck into position on the back post and nearly tapped in a goal but it was held out by the scrambling greenbottle defence. Greenbottles were able to string together some nice passes, slicing through the Tatiara defence, but the final shot was just wide. A hit into the Tatiara attacking circle wasn’t cleared by the Greenbottle defenders, and the ball got through to Belinda Taylor who was waiting on the back post and firmly put away the ball to score the goal to bring the score back level.
In the final quarter, Greenbottles had plenty of the ball going forward, with Tillie Derrington having some shots at goal, but they were stopped by goalie Piper Taylor. Greenbottles were able to break the deadlock with a well worked goal, using passes to move the ball around the defence, to the baseline then finished off by Tillie Derrington in front of goals to earn the Greenbottles the win.

Tatiara vs Greenbottles – Men
The first quarter was consistent even play from both teams. Therefore, there wasn’t much action in either circles. It was only halfway in the second quarter, that the first short was awarded to the Greenbottles, but still no goal was scored.
As time went on the intensity grew seeing some great plays from both teams, each eager to get a score on the board. The third found Tataria gaining their first short corner, but they couldn’t manage to convert a goal. Greens worked the ball into their attack. With a great pass across the front of goal, Trent was there to pick off and score a well executed goal.
As the game continued more close calls were seen in both attacking circles. Brody skilfully scored Tatiara’s first goal, but the celebrations didn’t last long as Cameron from Greens replied with a goal.
The end resulting in Greens defeating Tatiara 2-1.
